“…we probably weren’t nearly as good as everybody thought we were before we traveled down here.”
That’s Arizona Wildcats head coach Sean Miller talking. Now that’s not necessarily what you want to hear as a player, of course. But can anybody blame Miller at this point?
Entering the week, his Wildcats were ranked No. 2 in the country. Behind only Duke, of course. Then Arizona would lose to NC State (90-84). They would fall in another close one the very next day to SMU (66-60). Finally, No. 18 Purdue would absolutely rip them apart (89-64).
But that’s not all Miller had to say following the defeat.
“I wouldn’t have predicted we would come down here and finish 0-3. That wasn’t the goal. But nothing’s ever as bad as it seems.”
We’ll see if Arizona can get their season back on track starting Wednesday night. They will need to defeat Long Beach State to do so. And while it’s dangerous to assume, they should be up to the task.
