Manchester City isn’t the only club in Manchester going after Arsenal’s Alexis Sánchez. On the heels of City’s cheeky £20 million bid from earlier in the week, the Red Devils are reportedly going in with a bid of £25 million. However, reports also indicate that Sánchez has already agreed to a contract (worth £250,000 per week) with City.
But for what it’s worth, Goal’s Sam Lee reports that Sánchez is desperate to play under Pep Guardiola. The 29-year-old was briefly coached by Pep during his time at Barcelona. Then again, this wouldn’t be the first time Arsenal sold a star to United at a pivotal time. Remember Robin van Persie?
22 matches into the Premier League season, City lead United by 15 points. Arsenal, meanwhile, sit sixth—a full 23 points of City’s pace. The only hopes they have for the remainder of the season seem to be earning a Champions League berth. Of course, they can do that one of two ways—by winning the Europa League or finishing top-four. Over the weekend, Championship-side Nottingham Forest would even eliminate the Gunners from the FA Cup.
On the surface, it’s all sort of unraveling for Arsenal. Losing Sánchez would be the proverbial nail the coffin. Yet at this point it doesn’t appear to be a matter of if, but rather when it happens. Now the only question is: will it be City or United who land the Chilean superstar?
