Update from last week:
Hanley Ramirez has still been on fire, but is now dealing with a shoulder injury. Check his status, he might be day to day.
Wil Myers has still been tearing the cover off the ball and remains a must-start.
Chris Archer struggled in his recent start against the Giants, but he should be fine the rest of the year.
Albert Pujols is expected to miss the rest of the season. Move on.
Josh Johnson continues to get rocked and shouldn’t be started until he turns things around. I would drop him in all leagues.
A-Rod got handed a 211 game suspension, but will appeal and will play for the time being. He just got activated off the D.L. Start him at your own risk.
Torii Hunter (OF DET) 85% owned in Yahoo! leagues – Hunter has found the “fountain of youth” in 2013. He’s been having his best season since 2009. He bats in a dangerous Tigers lineup and already has 12 homers. With so many outfielders being injured, struggling or suspended, Hunter is a must-start right now.
Kendry Morales (1B SEA) 74% owned in Yahoo! leagues – Morales has been on fire since July started. His numbers in July were: .309, 7 HR, 18 RBI and a .364 OBP. He’s kept it going in August and looks to have his best season since 2009. He’s a must-start right now.
Chris Johnson (1B/3B ATL) 69% owned in Yahoo! leagues – He is bound to cool off at some point, but Johnson needs to be owned and started in all leagues right now. He’s batting .346, with seven homers, 42 RBI and 42 runs.
Biogenesis suspended players (who won’t appeal):
Nelson Cruz (OF TEX) 73% owned in Yahoo! leagues – Cruz was having a great year and is now suspended the rest of the year. He was playing for a big contract since he’s due to be a free agent next year. Now he has to sit out the rest of the year and won’t get the money he wants next year. It will hurt all fantasy owners that owned Cruz. Here are potential replacements: Michael Saunders (18% owned), Cody Ross (15% owned) and Will Venable (4% owned).
Everth Cabrera (2B/SS SD) 62% owned in Yahoo! leagues – Everth was having a career year, but it all goes down the drain with this recent suspension. He can be safely dropped in all non-keeper leagues. Some potential replacements for Cabrera include: Jed Lowrie (77% owned), Stephen Drew (20% owned) and Ryan Raburn (13% owned).
Jhonny Peralta (SS DET) 52% owned in Yahoo Leagues – Peralta is the third most fantasy relevant player to get caught and suspended. He was having a solid season but owners need replacements. Some guys to consider: Erick Aybar (55% owned), Andrelton Simmons (54% owned) and Stephen Drew (20% owned).
