We might still be waiting for the Giancarlo Stanton trade, but it appears the MLB offseason is about to pick up.
That’s because Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani has narrowed his selection down to just seven ballclubs. The first round of cuts would be yesterday. And Ohtani, 23, would make waves by declining advances from both the Yankees and Red Sox.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman believes that Ohtani is leaning towards the west coast. Additionally, smaller markets. Here’s the problem with a portion of that rationalizing, however. Let’s grant the west coast premise—even though it’s not entirely accurate.
Ohtani’s shortlist includes Texas and Chicago as well, but again, forget the coastal thing for a moment. On top of Texas and Chicago, said shortlist also includes both LA teams… and San Francisco. Those are hardly small markets, don’t you think?
Either way, his list stands at seven clubs. And it appears one is about to get very lucky very soon.
