Imagine being the Miami Marlins. Too painful? Okay, well, imagine running the Miami Marlins. Still too much? Okay, fine, how about this—imagine threatening your best player. Moreover, your only superstar. But not only that—he’s the MVP of the National League as well.
“If Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton truly wants to play on a contender, he’ll have to accept a trade to another team. Because if the reigning National League MVP decides to come back to the Marlins, the team will just deal away everyone else.”
That is the actual report. That is an actual threat that a Major League Baseball is genuinely making. Of course, this wouldn’t be much different than how the Marlins have always operated. However, no deal appears to be close at the moment.
But, the San Francisco giants do appear to be favorites to land him. Meanwhile, the St. Louis Cardinals are right behind them. This is why:
From @CraigMish on @TMASTL re: #STLCards and #Stanton: I have been told the #SFGiants are willing to take on the entire contract, and that makes the Giants the favorites right now with the Cardinals in second place. I think the Giants are all-in until the end to get Stanton.

As for Stanton himself, he’s going to make plenty regardless. Moreover, his next franchise will definitely be more appreciative of his services than the Marlins appear to be.
