UFC 229 has come and gone. But with it, plenty of excitement. We knew Khabib Nurmagomedov versus Conor McGregor would be a battle. The hype; the drama — McGregor’s bus attack and trash talk — all led to those chaotic moments following the fight. But at the end of the night, the UFC wouldn’t be crowning a new lightweight champion. Instead, Nurmagomedov would keep his strap; his unbeaten record.
And now we’re here to recount the ways his pre-fight quotes came true. Here are five such examples…
1. “My wrestling and my pressure…he has to kill me (to) stop it. Insha’Allah (God willing) I’m going to stop this guy. I’m going to finish this guy. This is my plan.”
Khabib Nurmagomedov came out of the gate like a man possessed and his relentless pressure was just as intense at the opening bell as it was when referee Herb Dean called a stop to the action. A lot of questions were answered on October 6th. Could Khabib take Conor McGregor down and keep him down? Yes! Was Conor McGregor able to stop the wrestling onslaught and/or get back to his feet? No! Can Khabib stand and trade with Conor? …surprisingly, yes!
Khabib’s wrestling and pressure were unstoppable. His plan was to finish McGregor. It was executed flawlessly.
