Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather would make a whole lot of money boxing each other back in August of 2017. But MMA is an entirely different beast. And while “Money” continues to tease stepping into the octagon, McGregor’s coach isn’t so sure.
“I think it’s a bad move for Floyd to get into the cage,” coach Owen Roddy says. “I just think he doesn’t have enough time to learn what it takes to fight in the Octagon.”
However, Roddy knows what sells. And he knows Mayweather likes when the money is right.
“But he could make a lot of money. And money talks.”
That said, “Money” was reportedly looking to apply for his MMA license back in March. But now, it appears as though he’s having second thoughts.
“As of right now, I’m touring around the world, doing different things, embracing my fans, getting love from all around the world, right now I’m just traveling,” Mayweather says. “I don’t know what the future holds, but as of right now, I’m retired. I’m not thinking about fighting right now.”
That’s probably for the best. Floyd can box, but just about any fighter in MMA could take him down with ease. Perhaps he should just leave it at that.
