We haven’t seen Conor McGregor fight for the UFC since November 2016. But that doesn’t mean he’s staying away. After all, he would attack a bus full of fighters ahead of UFC 223. And while Dana White should suspend him for an indefinite period of time, Bellator’s Paul Daley knows better. He knows the UFC needs McGregor. Speaking on “The MMA Hour“, he breaks it all down:
“The whole situation it was very similar and Dana could come across as being a little hypocritical, but for me, it’s a different ballgame…”
But he knows why the promotion is where it is today. Conor McGregor is a big part of all that.
“A lot of where they are now is (due) to Conor McGregor. So if you’ve got someone bringing in money and raising the sport and your promotion to greater heights, then you can’t ban him for life because business is going to go bad for you.
“Really, he should be treated the same as I was. As a guy with his profile in the sport and for the company of the UFC, he should be banned for life, if what I did, I got banned for life. But business is business and they need him. I like Conor McGregor and I respect him. … And I respect Dana’s choice. It’s a smart move.”
In the meantime, should we expect ‘The Notorious’ back anytime soon? It’s probably best not to hold your breath… for now.
