In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Floyd Mayweather Jr. was complimentary of his former foe, Conor McGregor.
“Money” called his Irish rival “a tough competitor” and “a warrior.” He was also asked about McGregor’s upcoming UFC lightweight title fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov — scheduled for UFC 229.
He then went so far as to invite McGregor to come train at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas.
However, ‘The Notorious’ caught wind of this — offering a response as only he can.
“Fuck the Mayweathers, except Senior and Roger. There is no peace here kid. Step up or step down.”
So there you have it.
By “Step up or step down,” McGregor is likely referring to rumors of Mayweather applying for an MMA license earlier this year. Those rumors went nowhere, of course. And now McGregor may be goading Mayweather into the UFC Octagon for another high stakes match. This time, though, it would be on the Irishman’s turf.
Mayweather did also state his interest in getting cage-side tickets to UFC 229. Which, of course, would add even more drama to an event already ripe with promotional material.
Not to be outdone, though. Mayweather did respond to Conor’s retort with a tweet of his own.
“Easiest 9 figures I ever made! All work is what ?
#MayweatherPromotions #TMT #TBE”
This isn’t over.
