Stephen Curry isn’t going to stop supporting LeBron James. And he certainly isn’t going to stop defending him from baseless attacks.
In response to a recent comment attacking LeBron’s intelligence, NBA Commissioner came to the king’s defense.
“LeBron is one of the all-time greatest NBA players and one of the most accomplished athletes,” he starts. “He runs a very successful media company. He’s sent hundreds of students to college and just opened a school in Akron where at-risk students will receive free tuition, meals, and transportation. I greatly admire his intelligence and business acumen and have enormous respect and admiration for what he does in his community.”
But the support didn’t end there. Fellow players such as Curry, Karl-Anthony Towns and Donovan Mitchell also voiced their support. Curry, though, kept his thought to a simple “Keep doing you King James.”
Now he’s saying a little more. Speaking to The San Jose Mercury News via Yahoo’s Jason Owens, Curry makes his message very clear. He knows what brings on these attacks.
“That rhetoric is all based in some longstanding racism in terms of black men with a voice in power. Unfortunately, that’s being revealed more and more as the days go on.”
We wonder who he could be talking about…
This isn’t the first time Curry has taken a swipe at the man in D.C., of course. And we shouldn’t expect it to be the last. As the days go by, athletes are getting stronger and stronger together. They’re not going to let somebody push them around. They’re definitely not going to let others get away with insulting their intelligence. Especially when athletes like LeBron are doing things like this.
Nobody’s just “sticking to sports” anymore, and there’s one big reason as to why.
Meanwhile, Curry is still pretty good at the whole basketball thing too. The Warriors are back-to-back champions, have won three out of the last four and look like they’re going to three-peat this season.
