If he remains healthy, Joel Embiid will be an NBA superstar. And when it comes to Twitter or post-game quips, few in the sport are better. Hell, few in all of sports are ever. But Embiid knows what to expect. He’s seen this movie before.
In fact, we all have.
“People love you at the beginning. But at some point they’re gonna start hating you.”
On the season, the center is averaging 23.5 points, 11.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2 blocks per game. His effective field goal percentage sits at roughly 51 percent. And, he’s shooting 79 percent from the charity stripe. He, Ben Simmons and the rest of the 76ers are filling the city of Philadelphia with hope.
But outside of that city, he knows it isn’t going to last.
“LeBron (James). Russell Westbrook. All the superstars. Even Steph (Curry). He’s so likable. He does nothing wrong, but some people still hate him. It just comes with the nature of it. I’ve seen it. I feel like I’m about to go through it. I think it’s coming. People always want something new.”
So, when will the people turn?
