Don’t sleep on former Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale. In fact, he already has to visits on the schedule for next week.
Reports indicate that Fizdale will meet with both the New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns to discuss their vacancies. Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News has the following:
“David Fizdale, considered by some as a leading candidate for the Knicks, is scheduled to interview next week for their vacant coaching position.
“The 43-year-old revealed that news to reporters in Oakland on Friday while visiting a buddy, Steve Kerr, at a Warriors practice. Fizdale said heas also interviewing with the Suns for their vacant position next week.”
After getting off to a 50-51 start in Memphis, the Grizzlies would fire Fizdale just 19 games into the 2017-18 season. However, he isn’t the problem. After all, the Grizzlies would finish with just a 22-60. They would go just 15-48 after his firing. But he could very well be a solution. Both the Knicks (29-53) and Suns (21-61) are coming off brutal seasons. But each team is going to have a high draft pick. The Knicks haveAKristaps PorziAA?is while the Suns have Devin Booker and plenty of assets. It’s just a matter of putting them all together.
And while both teams remain pretty far off from contending, Fizdale could get the chance to build something. The question is: should either team bring him in? Jerry Stackhouse, Mark Jackson and David Blatt are also candidates to take over the Knicks.
Let’s get weird, NBA.
