LeBron James no longer plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers. But if you think they’re not winning the East, don’t tell Tristan Thompson. Why? Well, because he believes the East still goes through Cleveland. Somehow. For some reason.
“We’re still four-time Eastern Conference champions, so until you take us down from that, teams ain’t got much to say. Boston, Philly, they ain’t got much to say,” Thompson told reports Thursday (via ESPN). “Boston had home-court Game 7 and lost. Philly, you guys almost got swept. Toronto — we already know that story. So until someone takes us down, there’s not much they can really say.”
But again, there’s a big catch here. Is he conveniently forgetting that LeBron doesn’t play there anymore? Is he conveniently forgetting that James did play there when they won all those series last postseason? Apparently not.
For what it’s worth, Boston’s Marcus Morris didn’t waste much time responding to that claim.

So there’s that. (He’s not wrong, by the way). But the responses didn’t stop there. Philadelphia’s Ben Simmons put his own thoughts on Thompson’s Instagram account.
“@realtristan13 hah yeh ok buddy see you soon,” he wrote.
Man, the NBA is fun.
Last season, Thompson put up 5.8 points and 6.6 rebounds over 53 games. LeBron, on the other hand, put up 27.5 points, 9.1 assists and 8.6 rebounds per game. So, yeah… good luck making up for all that production, Tristan.
We’re looking forward to it.
