“…as Minnesota’s front office tells inquiring rivals that team has no plans to trade Jimmy Butler, owner Glen Taylor had a different message at NBA’s Board of Governors meetings: Butler is available and owners/GM’s should contact Taylor himself if necessary.”
So yeah, that sounds like a mess. But wait, there’s more!
“‘The owner’s trading him,’one Board of Governors attendee told ESPN on Friday. ”That was made clear. It’s just a matter of when.”
We have a word for this. Just give it a minute… Oh yeah, it’s dysfunction. This entire situation is dysfunctional.
“‘He basically said, ‘If you don’t get anywhere with [Layden], and you’ve got something good, bring it to me,’” the story continues.
In his first season with the Timberwolves, Butler put up 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. They also made the playoffs for the first time in 13 years. But everything behind the scenes seems to be a mess. Karl Anthony-Towns and head coach Tom Thibodeau might not get along. Andrew Wiggins and Butler definitely don’t.
Without the elite two-way player on the roster, they maybe don’t make the playoffs next season. After all, they needed all 82 games to make it last season. We don’t know where he’ll end up, but we do know he wants to go to the Knicks, Nets or Clippers. We also know that the Clippers are favorites to land Butler.
So, where will he end up?
