Conventional wisdom (and collected statistics) say that if your NFL team starts the season 0-2, they’re basically done. In fact, they might as well start planning for the draft. According to OddsShark, only 10.9 percent of the 91 teams that started 0-2 from 2007-17 rebounded to make the playoffs.
But after just two weeks of the 2018 NFL season, seven teams are 0-2. That was quick, wasn’t it?
It’s a tough row to hoe when, after just two games, the prospect of practicing and grinding and getting hit again and again for next year makes that rock your team is pushing up the hill seem even heavier. But there is hope. Your team could be one of the 11-percenters that turn things around.
But for the rest, it’s back to the drawing board—and the practice field. Here is a look at which 10 NFL teams are already headed that way and why…
10. Pittsburgh Steelers (0-1-1)
It is counter-intuitive to say the Steelers are done for this season. With Ben Roethlisberger not yet retired, Antonio Brown still garnering the peak attention of the opponent’s defense and James Conner doing his best impression of Le’Veon Bell, Pittsburgh can’t yet be counted out of the playoffs.
Bell’s absence may have upset team chemistry and observers are scratching their heads over Brown’s mediocre production of 18 catches for 160 yards and one touchdown through two games, but it all adds up to no wins yet in 2018.
The Steelers are at the bottom of this list for a reason (they are the most obvious choice to still make the postseason). But if they don’t turn it around soon, they will bottom out and be spectators in December.
