The Cleveland Browns are currently the laughing stock of the NFL. But if their offseason is any indicator, things are about to change. Not only do they have a new quarterback under center (Tyrod Taylor), they’ve got another wideout to line up alongside Josh Gordon in Jarvis Landry. But that’s not all. With the first pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, they would select Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield. He’s not their quarterback right now, but he’s all set up to be their quarterback of the future.
More than that, though, the Browns are set up to win at least one game during the 2018 regular season. And Gordon cannot wait. Per ESPN’s Pat McManamon, he’s confident. But that’s only the start.
“I feel pretty good right now,” Gordon starts. “Life is great right now. And that’s kind of all I know. Life is good now, so …”
Before missing over a season due to multiple substance abuse suspensions, Gordon would put up ridiculous numbers. The 2013 season saw him haul in 87 catches for a league-leading 1,646 yards with nine scores. And he got his feet wet again this past season, playing in five games that saw him bring in 18 receptions for 335 yards. It wasn’t much, but it was a start. And that’s all that matters. Meanwhile, he believes his team is the one to beat. Not necessarily on the field, but in the wide receiver department.
“I think we’re the best receiving corps in the league, in my opinion, already,” Gordon says. “Just based off of talent alone. You put in the playbook and some guys that are hungry enough to go do it, hopefully we go show and prove that.”
Again, though, the Browns are coming off a win-less season. Tyrod Taylor should help them win at least one game. Gordon and Landry should help the Browns win multiple games. But to declare your team’s wide receivers the best? That’s a bold claim.
And only time will tell whether or not the Browns are for real.
