Details surrounding Bennett’s release are already murky, and they’re going to get murkier. But, him ending up in New England isn’t too surprising. After all, he would win his first-ever Super Bowl last season.
And, he would fill in admirably for the oft-injured Rob Gronkowski as well. In 16 appearances (12 starts), Bennett would haul in 55 receptions for 501 yards and seven TDs. That last mark currently stands as a career-high.
In seven starts for the Packers, however, Bennett racked up just 24 catches for 233 yards and zero scores. Still, there’s little reason to doubt the 30-year-old’s ability going forwarda��strange stint in Green Bay aside.
Because if there’s one thing Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick is king of in the NFL, it’s evaluating talent.
