Since the formation of the Bundesliga in 1963, Hamburg have never been relegated. But that would all come to an end on Saturday. With Wolfsburg’s 4-1 win over last place Köln, Wolfsburg now have a chance to save their season via playoff for the second consecutive campaign. Meanwhile, despite Hamburg winning five of their final six matches, they are going down. 15 of their 31 points would come in those final six matches, but it wasn’t enough.
Needless to say, fans are taking this very well… In fact, it appears as though they are trying to burn the damn place down.

As for what’s next, who knows? After all, this is a side that has been teetering on the edge of relegation for years. They would rely on the playoff to save their season twice over the past five seasons. They didn’t show any fight this season until they literally had no other choice. Typically it’s easy to assume a club will bounce right back and get right back into the first division.
But Hamburg is a little trickier. They always have been, for better or worse.
