Can you find a group of death among these nations? That’s right, football fans—the World Cup draw is officially complete. And honestly, there doesn’t appear to be an overly difficult group among the eight.
A: Russia, Uruguay, Egypt, Saudi Arabia
B: Portugal, Spain, Iran, Morocco
C: France, Peru, Denmark, Australia
D: Argentina, Croatia, Iceland, Nigeria
E: Brazil, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Serbia
F: Germany, Mexico, Sweden, South Korea
G: Belgium, England, Tunisia, Panama
H: Poland, Colombia, Senegal, Japan
There are, however, a handful of interesting storylines as we inch closer to 2018. Hosts Russia may have the easiest path into the knockout stages. Meanwhile, Germany looks to repeat as champions after their 2014 triumph.
Of course, France—widely regarded as favorites behind Germany—will have plenty to say about that. They appear to have a relatively easy draw as well. It depends on which Christian Eriksen will show up for Denmark. But we do know Australia will come to play.
Meanwhile, Brazil will look to put the embarrassment of 2014 behind them. Iceland is up against it with Argentina and Croatia in their group, but can we really count them out anymore? There may not be a clear group of death in Russia, but the World Cup is upon us.
What could be better?
